Solid Construction
Somerset solid hardwood flooring is a single piece of solid wood that
is crafted into a strip or plank flooring through an advanced milling
and finishing process.
Engineered Construction
Somerset’s engineered hardwood flooring has a solid top layer, or
face, supported by six additional layers that are cross-grained and
laminated together to form a 1/2” thick piece of plank flooring. This
cross graining provides greater dimensional stability, minimizing the
expansion and contraction that natural wood exhibits when
exposed to varying moisture levels and temperatures.
Somerset’s engineered flooring has a sawn face, to replicate the look of solid flooring, so the main considerations for choosing solid or engineered flooring have to do with where and how the flooring will be installed. Both are excellent
choices to install on or above grade (ground level), depending on the type of subfl oor you have. If you choose to put hardwood flooring below grade, in a basement, for example, you will need to install engineered flooring.
A federal regulation designed to protect against the risk of exposure to lead dust and chips from lead-based paint and other lead-based coatings disturbed by renovation activities will take effect beginning in April 2010.
Contractors performing renovation, repair and painting projects that disturb lead-based paint in homes, child care facilities and schools built before 1978 must be certified and must follow specific work practices to prevent lead contamination. This includes wood flooring contractors.
In order to understand your potential obligations under this new rule, refer to http://www.epa.gov/lead/pubs/renovation.htm
Somerset’s Character Collection is solid 3/4″ thick flooring crafted from Appalachian species which are renowned for their incomparable beauty. Solid prefinished flooring should last the lifetime of your home. It can be sanded and refinished if needed—or if your decorating tastes change and you simply want to change the color.

Thanks to all that came by our new location in Mooresville to meet the new Loba representative. Loba was on location to demonstrate several of their products. We sealed the concrete with Wakol PU 280, then layed solid 3/4″ hardwood with Wakol MS 260.
Thanks to Brian from Loba-Wakol for his help. We soon will be sanding and finishing with the Loba finishes, stay tuned!
